The more refined the surface the softer the mop and the less abrasive the compound. Loose-leaf mops are good for first stage polishing on copper, brass and bronze, followed by a second loose-leaf with a finer compound for final glossing. These are the recommended mop for use with gold, silver, other precious metals, plastics and resins. They are the preferred mop for final finishing on harder metals such as steel, stainless steel and iron for a high gloss finish. These mops have a 12.7mm (1/2") plain bore, designed for direct mounting onto the Axminster Craft AC150BB 150mm Buffing Machine. They can, of course, fit onto any similarly designed 12.7mm (1/2") or 13mm shaft. They are not suitable for use with a pigtail type mounting. The thickness of these mops is approximately 13mm. Use a felt tip pen to note the compound used on the mop to avoid cross contamination.-bg
