The Axminster Workshop No.7 Bedrock Jointer Plane is a long plane, enabling it to level bumps and hollows, therefore leaving a true edge for accurate jointing of boards. It is useful for the final flattening of a surface before using a smoothing plane. The blade is cryogenically treated high carbon, offering excellent edge retention. It comes with 25° bevel. The blade only requires honing before use (putting a 30° micro bevel on the edge can be done in less than a minute). The plane's main body is ductile grey iron with a flat ground sole. The weight of the body allows the plane to glide smoothly, even through rough timber. It features an adjustable frog allowing you to close the plane's mouth for finer work. The 'Y' level that helps control the depth is an investment casting for better engagement with the blade. The lateral blade control lever is the traditional 'disc' type rather than simple piece bent metal. The plane has a lever cap iron and solid brass adjusting nut. The handle is made from hardwood. The bedrock design ensures for maximum stability and support for the cutting iron, resulting in less blade chatter. There is a full contact area between the body and the frog. Without removal of the iron, the frog can be adjusted to widen or narrow the mouth of the plane. This ensures for easier and more accurate adjustment to the mouth opening without damaging the cutting iron, for increased control and fine-tuning.
