Rider plane blades are made in the UK. They fit Rider planes, Stanley, Record, Footprint and many other Bailey type bench planes. The 60mm (2.3/8") will fit No.4.1/2, No.5.1/2, No.6 and No.7 planes. Rider plane blades are 3mm thick O1 high carbon steel, hardened to HRC 61-64. These British made high quality blades hold a very good edge and require only a light honing before use. Treat your plane to a blade that will hold a keen edge and cut clean, thin shaving. O1 tool steel offers good durability, has excellent wear resistance and holds a good cutting edge. This high carbon tool steel is relatively easy to sharpen and hone using conventional methods. A final wipe on a strop produces a very fine edge. A sharp O1 blade is a joy to use. Note: At 3mm Rider blades are thicker than most original blades supplied as standard. A thicker blade has many advantages, but in some cases may require a slightly longer cap iron screw. Occasionally the mouth of the plane may need fettling; opening slightly with a file.
