This Shokunin Saw Kit comprises the Shokunin Japanese Double-edged Ryoba Saw - 240mm and the Shokunin Japanese Flushcut Saw - 125mm. Shokunin Japanese Double-edged Ryoba Saw - 240mm In common with other Japanese saws, the Shokunin Ryoba cuts on the pull stroke. The double-edged design immediately gives you two saws for the price of one. Each edge has a dedicated tooth profile and performs its intended purpose perfectly. When cutting on the pull stroke, the blade it working in tension. As a result, the blade is thin, lightweight and hard and the saw naturally follows a straight line. The narrower kerf means the saw removes less material. Each crosscut tooth has three ground cutting edges. The teeth leave an incredibly clean finish, saving time. The rip cutting teeth cut at an amazing speed, with a smooth action. Smaller rip teeth close to the handle aid starting the cut. Once established, using the full length of the blade makes for rapid progress. When gripped close to the blade, the long handle acts as a counter-balance. The length allows rip sawing long boards standing over the work in the traditional Japanese manner. Blade thickness is 0.50mm. Length of blade is 240mm. Overall length is 605mm. Shokunin Japanese Flushcut Saw - 125mm A small saw, traditionally used in Japanese joinery for flush trimming protruding wooden or bamboo nails, used to pin joints. The thin blade is incredibly flexible. Even after bending beyond 90° it springs back true. The crosscut teeth of this saw have zero set. It can cut a dowel or tenon flush without marring the surrounding surface. When using this saw, it helps if you gently rest the fingers of your free hand on the back of the blade just behind the cut. This gives much greater control. The blade has two edges, a fine tooth pitch on one side for hardwoods and a slightly coarser pitch on the other for softwood. The blade length is 125mm fitted with a beechwood handle, overall length 270mm. Blade thickness is 0.30mm. Length of blade is 125mm. Overall length is 270mm.
